Why Knowing God Personally Matters

Knowing God personally is important to me because I know His love is not based on my performance. God loves me despite my failures. He loves me despite my shortcomings. He has been patient with me. He has been faithful to me. He has never stopped pursuing me.

The more I know Him, the more I realize how completely I depend upon Him. Apart from Him, I have nothing of lasting value. Apart from Him, I can do nothing that will produce eternal fruit. I cannot become the woman He has called me to be without Him. I cannot fulfill His purpose for my life without Him.

Every day reminds me of one simple truth: I need God. Not only in moments of crisis... But in every moment of every day.

That is why my greatest pursuit is not simply learning more about God. It is walking with Him.

I am a woman who has learned that money is not enough, that a man/woman is not enough, that family is not enough, and that fame or likes on social media is not enough. I have learned that through joy, pain, storms, and sorrow, the one constant in my life has always been my heavenly father. I have learned that God is enough.

People don’t simply need more information about God - they need a personal relationship with Him.

Why God Entrusted This Message to Me God entrusted this message to me because my greatest desire has always been to know Him more intimately. Throughout my walk with God, one prayer has continually shaped my life. It is the prayer Moses prayed in Exodus 33. Not because it's my favorite chapter, but because it expresses the cry of my heart. Moses, after leading God's people through the wilderness, understood that success, leadership, and even miracles could never replace God's presence. More than anything else, he wanted to know God personally. His prayer became my prayer. If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you, and ..." (Exodus 33:13) Like Moses, my greatest desire has never been simply to know about God. My deepest longing has always been to please God and know Him more intimately. Then Moses prayed something even more remarkable. "Please, show me Your glory." (Exodus 33:18) That prayer has often become my own. Not because I seek an extraordinary experience, but because I long to know God's character, His heart, and His presence more deeply. Yet the prayer that has perhaps shaped my ministry more than any other is found just a few verses earlier. "If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here." (Exodus 33:15) Moses understood that God's presence was what distinguished His people from every other nation on earth. He continued, "For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? Your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the face of the earth."(Exodus 33:16) Those verses have become the foundation of my own ministry. I have often reflected on Moses' words in Exodus. He understood that God's presence was the only thing that truly distinguished His people from the world. I have come to believe the same is true for us today. Degrees, titles, accomplishments, and ministry experience all have their place, and I thank God for each opportunity He has given me to learn, but none of them can replace the transforming power of spending time in God's presence. None of those things can distinguish my life or ministry from the world. My relationship with God was not built by happenstance. It was built in prayer. It was built in worship. It was built through studying His Word. It was built through trusting Him in seasons when I did not understand His plans. It was built in God’s presence! Knowing God for yourself will change your life.

Have you ever wondered...Who is God really? Can I truly know Him personally? Why do I still feel empty even though I’ve been in church for years? Does God really hear my prayers? Can He still use someone like me? If you’ve asked any of those questions…You’re in the right place. Because those are the very questions that began my own journey. One of the greatest discoveries I’ve ever made is this: You can know God for yourself. Not through someone else’s relationship. Not through tradition alone. Not through religion. Through a real, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That relationship changes everything: It changes how you pray. How you face difficult seasons. How you love others. How you see yourself. How you experience peace. My prayer is that this website becomes more than just a place to read about God. I pray it becomes a place where you begin seeking Him for yourself. You don’t have to have all the answers today. You don’t have to understand everything about the Bible. You don’t have to be perfect. You simply need a willing heart. God promises, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 If you’re ready to begin… I’d love to walk alongside you.

THEY SAID

.Chapter Overview The book comprises an introduction, nine chapters in four parts, and a closing epilogue and prayer. Introduction Knowing God for Yourself. Establishes the central question of the book and calls the reader to move from borrowed faith to a firsthand relationship. Part One — The Pursuit Chapter 1: Morning Joy (Psalm 30). Even in our longest nights, God's favor outlasts the pain. Anchored by the author's testimony of surgery and healing, and the truth that God sometimes changes our hearts rather than our circumstances. Chapter 2: Seek and You Shall Find (Mark 5:25–34). What we seek shapes what we find. The woman with the issue of blood models for us how to seek Jesus with intentional faith — proximity is not connection — and finds both healing and restored identity. Chapter 3: How Long? (Psalm 13). Honest lament and steady trust belong in the same prayer. The book's most vulnerable chapter is carried by the author's grief over her sister Brenda's death. Part Two — The Decision Chapter 4: Time to Choose (Joshua 24). Faith is a daily decision, not a one-time event. “Choose today whom you will serve,” lived out in ordinary choices, with the assurance of complete forgiveness. Chapter 5: Peace or Pieces (Philippians 4:4–9). Peace is a guarded heart, not the absence of problems — found in Christ, not circumstances, as Paul's imprisonment demonstrates. Chapter 6: My Will or Thy Will Be Done (James 4:7–10). The greatest battle is between our will and God's. Surrender comes before resistance; breakthrough begins where self-will ends. Part Three — The Transformation Chapter 7: A Call to Holiness (1 Peter 1:13–16; Isaiah 35:8–10). Holiness is not perfection but reflection — not rule-keeping, but a relationship that slowly makes us look more like Christ. Chapter 8: Relationship Not Religion (Jeremiah 29:13). The book's thesis is delivered most directly. Told through the memorable “snow” illustration and the story of the sons of Eli, you can be surrounded by holy things and still not know God. Part Four — The Invitation Chapter 9: Just Come — The Sinner's Prayer (Romans 10:9–13). Every pursuit leads to a decision. The book becomes an invitation to come to Jesus — for the first time or in return — just as you are. Epilogue & Final Prayer The journey of knowing God is a lifelong pursuit, not a destination. A closing prayer sends the reader forward with the book's core assurance: God is not looking for flawless people, but for surrendered hearts.

THE BRIEFING

Knowing God Personally Changed Everything My greatest passion is helping people move beyond simply knowing about God to truly knowing Him for themselves. Welcome! I'm Carolyn Sanders, and I'm honored that you've taken a moment to learn a little about me. More than any title or accomplishment, I want to be known as someone who loves God and desires to help others experience a genuine relationship with Him. Throughout my ministry as a Bible teacher, conference speaker, author, ordained minister, and board-certified chaplain, I have had the privilege of walking with people during some of life's most joyful and most difficult moments. Whether sitting beside a hospital bed, teaching God's Word, praying with families, or encouraging believers through writing, I've witnessed God's faithfulness in every season of life. Those experiences have continually reminded me that people don't just need information about God; they need the peace, hope, comfort, and strength that come from a personal relationship with Him. Regardless of the season of ministry I am called to, my heart remains the same: to encourage people to seek God wholeheartedly, trust Him completely, and discover the joy of walking with Him each day.
Alongside my ministry calling, God has also equipped me through education and professional leadership. I hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Divinity (M-Div), and a degree in Accounting. Those experiences have taught me the importance of leadership, stewardship, wisdom, and integrity, and reinforced the belief that every gift and opportunity can be used to glorify God. That truth became the foundation for everything I write, teach, and share. I believe God desires more than our attendance at church or our knowledge of Scripture. He invites each of us into a genuine relationship with Him, a relationship built on trust, prayer, obedience, and His unfailing love. As a devoted mother, I treasure faith, family, and God’s purpose for every season of life. My prayer is that the resources you find here will encourage you to deepen your relationship with Christ and experience His peace, His presence, and His transforming power. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey… Whether you’re taking your first steps of faith… Or you’ve walked with Christ for many years… I want you to know there is always more to discover about God’s love, His grace, and His faithfulness. Thank you for visiting. It is truly an honor to walk this journey with you. I pray God richly blesses you as you continue your own personal pursuit of knowing Him. A Few Things About Me I love encouraging others through God’s Word. I treasure time with my family. I believe prayer changes lives. Coffee and a quiet morning with my Bible are some of my favorite moments. My greatest joy is seeing people discover the peace that comes from knowing God personally.
